Ślimakowe Rytmy – Beats of Cochlea

2nd International Music Festival for Children, Youths, and Adults with Hearing Disorders “Beats of Cochlea”

Professor Henryk Skarżyński with the team of the World Hearing Center of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing invites your participation in the 2nd International Music Festival for Children, Youths, and Adults with Hearing Disorders “Beats of Cochlea”

We are looking for people who thanks to high-tech hearing implants can pursue their passion for music – they play instruments, compose music, sing and dream of artistic career. This unique in the world festival is just for them. In the past they were deaf or hard-of-hearing, but now they can feel as artists performing their favourite musical pieces with the accompaniment of famous musicians on a big stage. The Festival will take place between July 11th and 14th, 2016.

Beats of Cochlea

The International Music Festival for Children, Youths, and Adults with Hearing Disorders “Beats of Cochlea” is an original project initiated by Professor Henryk Skarżyński, first in Poland surgeon to perform cochlear implantation in a totally deaf patient in 1992. The idea is to show to the wide audience musical talents saved by high-tech advances in science and medicine.

The 1st International Music Festival for Children, Youths, and Adults with Hearing Disorders “Beats of Cochlea” took place in July 2015. Over 100 implant users from such countries as Argentina, China, Portugal and the United Kingdom have sent their applications to participate in the Festival. We hosted 35 people who came to Warsaw for auditions. The Jury, composed of eminent musicians, artists and journalists like Ewa Podleś, prof. Jerzy Marchwiński, prof. Jerzy Stuhr, and prof. Ryszard Zimak, selected 14 laureates to perform at the Gala Concert in Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio, with the support of the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Krzesimir Dębski. The Festival showed that with the development of medicine, hearing problems in talented patients do not have to be an obstacle on the way to their musical career. Having had their hearing implants, they can not only communicate easily with others but also develop their passion for music. They sing, compose music, play different instruments, record professional albums. Their performances during the Gala Concert will stay in our memory for a long time to come.

Organizing the second edition of the Festival we want to help children, youths and adults to fulfill their musical dreams and plans. We want to show to the entire world how big and small wonders – hearing-improving surgeries performed in the World Hearing Center and in other centers around the world – influence the fortunes of deaf people, their families and the whole society.
